Our Approach

The Language Workshop for Children® (LWFC)at the Kids' ClubThe Thibaut Technique® was pioneered by The Language Workshop for Children’'s Founder/Director François Thibaut in 1973. His method combines carefully structured curriculum and a child's innate love of play. LWFC structured playgroups let parents capture the window of opportunity years when children possess their greatest capacity to absorb and retain language. Parents nationwide are looking for quality early language training for their children, this is why the LWFC partnered with Kids Language Club Inc. to offer their renowned Languages for Tots® and Children classes. Kids Language Club Inc. was founded in 2007 by Maria A. Salazar and her husband Alejandro Castro, with the sole purpose of providing quality foreign language programs to children. Maria and Alejandro have extensive work experience in the U.S. and Latin America and have three young children that are being raised bilingually.Maria is a native Spanish speaker, she holds a degree in Business Administration from The University of Kansas and spent a year studying French at the Institut de Touraine in Tours, France. She comes from a family of educators, her parents founded, have owned and operated for more than 30 years an extremely successful bilingual school in Colombia. Maria believes knowing more than one language is an unmatchable way to open many doors. Alejandro is also a native Spanish speaker, he holds an Industrial Engineering degree from a foreign university and an MBA from Wichita State University. He learned English later in life and encourages parents to expose their children to a second language at a young age since it is easier to absorb, retain and imitate languages.The LWFC has been recognized by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, People Magazine, Better Homes & Gardens, Working Mother, The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and the BBC, as well as by many parenting magazines.

Each new session every student receives a fresh song CD tucked into a colorful, professionally illustrated and printed Songs and More™ workbook to take home. The LWFC's Songs and More series is available exclusively through the The Language Workshop for Children®. Since the melodies and the words change every session students constantly acquire and build upon their inventory of language skills.

With The Thibaut Technique®, kids learn naturally, not by translating. First they hear, then they understand, and finally they speak.

Tots 6 - 36 Months

At The Language Workshop® children are immersed in their new language through native speakers and learn to speak with an excellent, "business standard" accent. Classes are limited in size, so each child can be nurtured and encouraged and feel less self-conscious. By studying foreign language, children learn the Latin roots -- vital in order to achieve competitive SAT or ACT verbal test scores.

The LWFC at The Kids’ Club is staffed with teachers personally trained, certified and supervised by François Thibaut. Native speaker instructors teach entirely in the second language so that their students absorb the new language naturally through understanding, not translating.

Page 13 Languages for Tots® 6 Months - 3 YearsStudents attend Tots classes with a parent or caregiver.In a 45-minute Tots structured playgroup, children absorb their target language through stimulating games, language immersion, visual aids, original LWFC songs, tactile materials and more! Tots playgroups build more than language skills. As youngsters handle toys and visual aids, they develop motor skills and coordination. As they participate and interact, they imagine, discover, and build social skills too.Languages for Tots® is age-appropriate, grouping children in 6-36M, 12-24M, and 20-36M classes. Most locations offer parents two types of classes:Original Program (OP). Original Program classes are 45M of emotionally supportive, stimulating language immersion activities. Tots learn words, meanings, and basic grammar through the LWFC’s language building songs, prop activities, and more.Arts & Crafts (AC). In an AC class the first 35 minutes is Original Program. Then for the last 10 minutes children work on a simple “shape-pasting” arts & crafts project offering a visual means to reinforce word meanings and develop motor skills.Tots that are 2 years old can also have the option of joining our special Parent's Day Out where we combine aTots Original Program class with traditional preschool activities like pre-reading, story time, arts & crafts, projects, and socialization.

Page 14 Languages for Children45 or 60 Minute ClassStudents are adjusted to separation and attend class by themselves.In Children's classes, students learn a new language in a happy language immersion environment filled with exciting age-appropriate action games, visual aids, LWFC vocabulary songs, playful and educational activities and lots and lots of laughs. Because kids over the age of three are fully verbal, Children's classes are vocal and animated. Students are more aware of each other than in Tots so they enjoy each other’s company and interacting as a group. These groups use phrases and full sentences and later as the children progress, they learn stories and dialogues. Classes are relaxed and happy because the students are constantly engaged in rapidly changing activities. Parent's Day Out (PDO)The PDO program is designed for children ages two to five years. It develops a child's vocabulary through stimulating activities, enriched immersion play, and the LWFC’s original language development songs and activities. It simultaneously builds fundamental early childhood skills such as self-confidence, imagination, reasoning, listening, creativity, socialization and motor coordination while at the same time developing a child’s ability to speak the Spanish language.Students participate in artistic, musical, social, and scholastic activities suited to their individual interests and developmental level. And as they go about these activities, they develop language skills, make friends, enjoy their environment, discover pre-reading and numbers, and learn more about the world around them. The LWFC's Language Immersion PDO is an intensive opportunity for a child to absorb a new language naturally.Currently offering Spanish PDO - Friday 9:00am - 12:00pm. Owner and certified Thibaut Technique® instructor, Maria A. Salazar has worked closely with Mr. Thibaut to provide the same structured curriculum in the Midwest. Since August 2009, the LWFC started to provide foreign language programs at daycare centers, preschools, schools and organizations for children 6 months - 12 years. Four 8 week sessions can be offered per year, with classes meeting once or twice per week for 45 or 60 minutes.Class size for preschool age is generally 5-10 students, elementary and middle school age class size is 5 - 15 students and children are grouped by age whenever enrollment permits. For elementary and middle school programs, LWFC recommends a school staff member or parent volunteer to attend classes. Schools can choose one or more languages: Spanish, Chinese and French. Classes are offered before, during or after school.Benefits for Schools & ParentsLWFC will write a rebate check per month based on income received from your student's tuition. 10% will go back to the school for supporting our foreign language program. Instead of having the foreign language classes as an expense, it becomes a source of revenue for the school or organization. Parent volunteers receive 30% off tuition for their contribution and assistance.Easy Steps to Establish the LWFC Program at Your School:1.
